The kingfisher is heard more than seen. Its piercing cry is usually the first sign of its presence.

Most often, what we see of the bird is a blue arrow that flies at full speed over the water, with all the power of its small, vibrant wings . The blue color of the upper parts blends into the clear sky reflected by the surface of the water.
It is not easy to find it perched in the vegetation, motionless, despite its bright colors. However, when you know where it is, you just have to wait to observe its fishing activity. It lies in wait on a high point, its head and tail twitching nervously. When a fish is spotted, it leaves its perch in a rapid oblique flight, hits the surface to grab the fish and returns to its perch.
