According to ancient legends, she was the only being deprived of speech who, when her parents were old, expressed her gratitude by surrounding them with her affectionate care. In Arab tradition, the Hoopoe is a good omen; it is a magical bird, a talisman that protects against the evil eye.

The Hoopoe lives in orchards, gardens, woods, fields and meadows, as well as in vineyards. It builds its nest in the excavation of a rock or in the hollow of a tree trunk. In France, the species is relatively uniformly distributed south of the Rennes-Grenoble line.
